In this series, we feature inspiring women in M-DAQ who are doing their part in challenging stereotypes and making a mark for women in the tech industry.

In the dynamic world of technology, the sky is not the limit - it's just the beginning. This rings especially true for Hsieh Mu Hua, a firm believer of pushing boundaries and challenging limits.

As an Engineering Manager and a team lead at M-DAQ Global, Mu Hua leads her team to design, implement, and maintain a low-latency system for market data distribution and order execution. As a developer, she faces technical hurdles daily, yet she approaches each one with a sense of excitement and determination. To her, obstacles are not roadblocks; they're opportunities to innovate and create solutions that address users' pain points head-on.

Acknowledging that stereotypes and biases exist is the first step to overcoming them in Mu Hua’s journey as a woman in tech, and seeking out the necessary resources and support becomes the pivotal key to surmounting these limitations. Beyond International Women's Day, let's continue to look to women like Mu Hua as a source of inspiration and empowerment. Read on for Mu Hua's take on challenging limits and defying expectations.

Could you share briefly about your role in M-DAQ?

I am an engineering manager in M-DAQ and I am responsible for our core system. We design, implement and maintain a low-latency system for market data distribution and order execution.

What are some challenges you've faced in your career in tech that you’ve learnt to overcome?

As developers, we face technical challenges every day and it is always exciting for me to contribute to solving users' pain points.

Throughout my journey as a woman in tech, stereotypes and biases such as the assumption that we are less competent or more emotional than our male counterparts are common. These may even lead to issues such as microaggression or being overlooked for promotions.

It is important to recognise that these challenges exist and seek the necessary support and resources to navigate them. Building a strong support network, finding mentors, and advocating for yourself are steps to overcoming these challenges.
